Estimate fence cost before you call.
Use this free, transparent tool to plan the material order before you buy or compare a quote.
02 Start with the scope
Your fence, priced in a minute.
Give us the details a contractor would ask for first. We will keep the assumptions in the open, so you can change them when you learn more.

03 Trust the number, not the guess
Read the model card.
Every result carries the version, date and boundary of the assumptions behind it. That keeps a useful planning range from looking like a promise.
Materials, labor, gates, removal and permits are added as separate bands, then the selected location factor and currency profile are applied.
Example: A 180 ft wood fence with two gates keeps the run, labor, gates and site extras visible before a contractor walk-through.
See data sourcesTaxes, permits, access, code, disposal, site conditions and local availability can change a written bid. Use the result to scope the conversation.
Why Renovation Range exists03 Read the result
Start with the total run.
Then price the scope.
A fence quote gets clearer when the run, height, material and gates are measured before the first price is discussed.
Measure the line before choosing the material.
Use the total fence run, not the lot size. Then separate height, terrain, gates, removal and permit allowances so a low quote cannot hide a missing scope.
This cost range is a starting point for a written quote. Bring the same inputs to each contractor and compare the material, labor and extras line by line.
04 Make the estimate legible
No black box.
Just better context.
A useful estimate does not pretend to be a bid. It gives you a sensible range, names the assumptions, and makes the next conversation less lopsided.
Three numbers beat one.
Low, expected, and high show uncertainty honestly — especially when labor and site conditions vary.
Show your work.
Materials, labor, gates, removal, and permits stay separate, so you can see what changed.
Local is a promise.
We only call a number local when the underlying data is local. Otherwise, we label it a baseline.
05 Before you sign anything
Turn a ballpark
into a better question.
Bring the breakdown with you. A good contractor will be able to tell you which line items are realistic for your property and why.
See the checklist01Is removal and haul-away included?+
Ask whether demolition, loading, disposal fees and final cleanup are included or priced separately. A low quote can move quickly when haul-away is missing.
02What does the labor line cover?+
Have the contractor spell out preparation, installation, equipment, cleanup and the crew’s scope. Compare the same work line by line, not just the final total.
03Are permits, gates, and site conditions scoped?+
Confirm permit responsibility, gate count and hardware, access, grading, drainage, excavation and any conditions that were not visible from the initial measurement.
04What could move this range after the site visit?+
Ask what the contractor still needs to verify: exact quantities, soil, utilities, access, material availability, taxes, disposal and code requirements. Those are the honest range movers.
07 Read the fine print
The short version.
Is this a contractor quote?
No. It is a reference estimate built from the assumptions shown on the page. A site visit and written scope are still the final word.
Why does location change the number?
Labor, material availability, permits, and site conditions vary by market. The model shows the factor and the assumptions so you can pressure-test a quote.
